Ep. 13 - The Butcher is the thirteenth episode of Hand Jumper.
Plot[]
The captured man shown at the end of the previous episode spits blood, and tells Jiwook that he won't answer to "Begonia Group scum." Jiwook tells his prisoner that there is no need to put up a brave facade, and that the other two members of his squad who were at juncture point were beheaded. Their heads are being sent to the headquarters of the Sea Wolves. Jiwook tells the man that if he does not want his head added to the box, he should tell him what the Sea Wolves know about Lilith. The man says that Lilith the godling is a fairy tale, and makes fun of Jiwook for taking it so seriously. The man rants about rogue aberrants like Jiwook, telling him that cowards such as him hide behind masks. In response, Jiwook takes off his mask, thereby revealing his face. Jiwook reasons that the man in front of him is dead anyway. Jiwook muses that the man must be provoking him because he still has hope. After going off on a tangent about how pigs can feel their imminent death before they are slaughtered, he uses his green essence to produce a large sabre.
Suddenly, Minnie interrupts him. Minnie has her face covered with a panda mask and is sitting behind a barrel. Minnie tells him that an aberrant just entered the building, referring to Sayeon. The next panel shows Sayeon and Ryujin entering a warehouse. They are engaging in banter, and Sayeon makes up the nickname "baldie" for Ryujin, since she must be hiding a bald spot with her cap. Ryujin asks Sayeon why she has been acting strangely lately. Sayeon tells her that she was supposed to go to the best law school in the country. Ryujin says she doesn't care, and Sayeon points out that "the one notable thing I've done with my life" is now irrelevant, and that she has had little to no impact. Sayeon says she lacks agency, and that there is no reason to be careful anymore. Then, a masked non-aberrant man holding a gun is shown hiding behind some wooden boxes in the warehouse, close to Sayeon and Ryujin. The man is confused, wondering why members of the Aberrant Corps (which he calls 'crows') are here in the warehouse. He wonders whether Minnie left him to die fighting these aberrants, but decides not to flee out of fear of Jiwook (who he calls 'Butcher'). He is also less afraid of Sayeon and Ryujin because they wear blue ties.
Ryujin respects that Sayeon is taking risks in order to try and make a difference but says that she cannot use her gift to help Sayeon, which the armed man overhears. Ryujin says that she won't have her gift back for at least another full day. Sayeon is impressed that Ryujin came with her despite not being able to use her gift, musing that Ryujin must worry about her. Ryujin says that Sayeon reminds her of an "idiot" she once knew. Suddenly, the sound of a bang rings out in the warehouse and a bullet rips through Ryujin's head, killing her. Some of her blood is left splattered on Sayeon's face. The chapter ends with Sayeon staring at the body in shock.
