Ep. 14 - Don't Look Down is the fourteenth episode of Hand Jumper.
Plot[]
In the beginning of the episode, Min is shown noticing something wrong. In the warehouse, Sayeon is remembering a scene from her childhood, shown through a flashback. Sayeon sees a bloodied Samin hunch over a dead body, telling Sayeon to look down "at what you did." The child Sayeon looks down, and the flashback ends, with Sayeon in the warehouse looking down at the bloody corpse of Ryujin. The armed man holds his gun up to Sayeon's head and threatens her life. He asks her who told her about this warehouse, and what she and Ryujin were doing there. Sayeon's heart beats uncontrollably, and is lost in her own thoughts. Sayeon thinks about how ridiculous her own ambitions to better the world are, and how she is responsible for the suffering of others. Sayeon blames herself for the lives Samin and her parents have destroyed for her. Sayeon imagines Samin and her parents blaming her for the death of Ryujin.
The armed man is frustrated that Sayeon is not answering him, and pokes the back of her head with his gun. He tells her to slowly turn around, which Sayeon does, showing that she has activated her essence. Sayeon's teal eyes stare at the terrified man, but then something happens. A series of panels show the events that just occurred, in backwards order, connected by a thread of Sayeon's essence. The next panel is the same as a panel in Episode 13, before Ryujin's death. Sayeon stares at Ryujin in disbelief, seeing her alive again, and saying and doing the exact things she was doing only moments ago. In the moment before Ryujin is shot, Sayeon jumps forward, tackling Ryujin and bringing her out of the path of the bullet. Ryujin is angry that she was tackled, but Sayeon yells at her to move. The armed man shoots at them, hitting Sayeon in the leg. Ryujin manages to hide behind some wooden boxes, but Sayeon falls to the ground.
The armed man holds his gun to Sayeon's head and tells Ryujin to show herself. Ryujin walks out of her hiding place, with her arms raised, telling the man to calm down. She says that they only came in for a smoke break. The man raises his gun, pointing it at Ryujin's head. Ryujin tells him that neither she nor Sayeon can use their gifts right now, and that he must have heard her say this earlier. If they did have their gifts, he would already be dead. Ryujin tries convincing him to put his gun down, arguing that currently they are only two eighteen year old teenage girls, who would be unable to defeat him in a fight. The armed man says that his sister was killed by aberrants when she was eighteen, which Ryujin feebly attempts to integrate into her argument. Ryujin sees Sayeon grab hold of a brick on the ground, and changes tactics. She says that Sayeon and her came to the warehouse to buy rapture, which is why they are alone. The armed man calls her a liar, saying that the warehouse hasn't been used for rapture drop-off for over a year now. He reveals that he is a member of the Begonia Group, and that this group has a monopoly on rapture sales in the area. Ryujin argues that there must be another group involved and gestures at the wooden crates in the room, which makes the man agitated. He steps away from Sayeon and grabs Ryujin's wrist, telling her to not move around and finally tell him the truth. The chapter ends with Sayeon standing up, brick in hand.
