Ep. 40 - Wishing Well is the fortieth episode of Hand Jumper.
Plot[]
We begin in a dream by Sayeon. She is holding the red plush toy she had as a child, but looks 18. A voice from a well speaks to her telling Sayeon that it thought she was nothing like her mother. Sayeon walks towards the well and asks the voice whether it knew her mother, but the voice says "After all this time? You would think so. I was on the cusp of knowing her, I think, but then she slipped away from me. Sly thing." The voice says that it has been bored without Sara, and was unable to "procure" someone remotely as interesting as her. It tells Sayeon that Samin always rejected it, and it was never interested in Sayeon before now.
The voice asks Sayeon what she wants. When Sayeon tries to give the response she gave in Episode 7, the voice dismisses that. Looking down the well, Sayeon sees a glowing white eye opening up in a field of stars. The eye says, "It's not every day that a God chooses to hear your wish. What do you really want?" And it is at this moment that Sayeon wakes up in the infirmary.
Sayeon sees a figure sitting next to her bed and asks "Jaeil...?" but the person sitting beside her bed is Ryujin. Sayeon remembers how she was speared through the stomach and checks her body, sensing that she has healed. Ryujin tells Sayeon that aberrants can heal from a lot, using only essence and time. When Sayeon asks how long she was unconscious Ryujin says a week, which shocks Sayeon. Ryujin then reveals that she was playing a prank on Sayeon, and laughs at her for believing that she was sitting at her bedside for a week. In reality, Sayeon has been unconscious for two hours.
Ryujin then talks about Sayeon's behaviour, saying that the fact she told Min to amputate someone was wrong. Ryujin also says that Sayeon was far too comfortable doing it, like it was in her nature. Sayeon thinks of her family as Ryujin says this, and thinks that what she did is completely different from how they act. Sayeon justifies herself to Ryujin by saying that everything she did followed the rules of the Corps, and that she didn't do anything wrong. Sayeon compares the Corps to school, and explains that the rules allow for her to harm people in order to make her way to the top. Sayeon tries to say that this will enable her to make the world a better place, but she remembers the white eye, and doesn't finish her sentence. Ryujin is stunned listening to Sayeon.
Then, Hayoon Ahn enters, and asks Sayeon how she's feeling.
