Ep. 42 - Cross to Bear is the forty-second episode of Hand Jumper.
Plot[]
This episode begins in Sayeon's past. Child Sayeon is speaking to Samin, telling her about how cool their mom is, and especially how she loves her smell. Samin tells her that their mother is the scariest person she will ever meet.
We return to the scene that ended the previous episode, in Sang's office in the third Aberrant Corps headquarters. Instructor Sang asks Sayeon whether she is the daughter of Sara Lee. Sayeon is worried and afraid, unsure about what Sang already knows. Sayeon thinks about the fact that the Aberrant Corps knows that Sara Lee was a career criminal, and killed her for it. Sayeon decides to confirm to Sang that she's Sara's daughter, in order to get more information from her about her mother. Sayeon knows that she can rewind to this question multiple times, and decides to give differing responses to get as much information about her mother as possible. In order to do this, Sayeon needs to jump back at 20 seconds after the question each time.
Sang is curious that Sayeon won't deny being Sara Lee's daughter, and Sayeon tells her that it's because she believes Sang must have good reasons to accuse her of being Sara's daughter. Sang explains that the reason she suspects Sayeon is because she has teal essence, has the same family name, and has no recorded living relatives. Sayeon is about to jump back with the knowledge that Sang doesn't have strong evidence to suspect her when Sang mentions that Sayeon also looks a lot like Sara. Sayeon then jumps back in time, hoping that she hasn't taken too long.
Sayeon does succeed in rewinding back time to the original question, despite it being longer than 20 seconds ago. Sayeon thinks that this must be because she was able to practice using her essence during the capture-the-flag game. Sang realizes that Sayeon is staring off into the void strangely, and so Sayeon jumps back again to the question. This time, Sayeon goes for a more offensive tact. She tells Sang that her mother warned her about joining the Corps, but that she has no ties to her gang. Sang uses her green gift to grab Sayeon, and interrogates her about the Crimson Society, while giving away that the Sea Wolves were Sara Lee's gang. Sang tells Sayeon that the Corps knows about Samin, who used her gang to kill several officers. Sayeon jumps back again to the beginning of the conversation. Sayeon is nervous about having almost been killed, and tells Sang that she doesn't know who Sara Lee is.
The scene changes to Iseul losing an armwrestling match to Min while Ryujin makes fun of him. Sayeon returns to the group wearing the second clip on her tie. Iseul asks her how she's doing, and hugs her in celebration, thanking her for the role she played in getting them all to level two. Sayeon then says that she should really tell everyone else what her gift is.
