Ep. 50 - Godlings is the fiftieth episode of Hand Jumper.
Plot[]
This episode begins with a recounting of some of the history of Aberrants by the old lady, called Granny by the other characters. She says that hundreds of years ago, it was Godlings that ruled the world. Godlings are said to have been capable of immense powers. Godlings were distinctly inhuman, with some being monstrous and others possessing terrifying beauty. They were "essentially immortal," and accumulated great wisdom that way. Granny says that her patron is the godling Quadrifons, which allows her to see the future.
The next panel shows cell 4 sitting at Granny's table in her home, unimpressed by her story. Iseul implies with his comment that stories about Godlngs were exaggerated by superstitious people of their time. Granny says that many Godlings have not died, but shed their physical forms and exist in the ether as omnipresent beings. Sayeon asks whether she has any physical evidence for that. Granny laughs at her suggesting that physical evidence would exist, and says that proof of the Godling's power sits right in front of her, in the form of aberrants.
Sayeon's thoughts show that aberrants are humans with a hint of Godling ancestry, which grants them their gifts. Godlings lost their dominance over the world by underestimating humanity as a threat. Most Godlings did not even bother to try and rule over humans. Humans developed faster than Godlings could keep track of, and multiplied greatly in number. Godlings usually acted alone, and very rarely had Godling families. Godlings more often had children with humans, creating aberrants. These aberrants multiplied, and ultimately significantly outnumbered Godlings. Ultimately, aberrants defeated and replaced Godlings as rulers of humanity.
Granny explains that the industrial revolution evened the playing field between humans and aberrants enough for humans to defeat aberrants. Ever since, every country in the world has feared the aberrants in their population, and has taken measures to sideline and control them. Granny says that the number of aberrants in the world is the lowest in six hundred years. Ryujin asks granny whether she hates aberrants, which granny denies, saying she cares only about money.
Granny then offers Sayeon to read her fortune. Sayeon thinks that a Godling patron can't possibly exist, but then she remembers the eye from the well.
